Care Systems Engineering  ·  Applying systems discipline to the care economy
Care Systems Engineering Studio

The care
economy has
an engineering
problem.

We applied systems engineering to it. Boundary conditions, load limits, failure modes, feedback loops. The same discipline that makes bridges hold and software ship.

What we are

a systems engineering studio
aimed at care

WOOMB designs the conditions under which care can exist sustainably — bounded, legible, and built to last. We treat care the way engineers treat infrastructure: with load limits, failure modes, and systems that hold.

We do not provide care. We engineer the systems that make care possible.

01 Boundary Frameworks Defining system inputs, outputs, and constraints. What care is in scope, who is responsible for what, and where the system ends.
02 Labor Pipelines Coordinated, modular, purchasable care delivery. Pulling informal labor into structured systems with defined scope and compensation.
03 Coordination Architecture The middleware layer between need and response. Triage logic, signal extraction, routing. The part most care systems skip entirely.
04 Governance Structures Authority maps, escalation paths, review cycles. The oversight layer that keeps a system correctable and its behavior auditable.
Disciplined.
Systems engineering is the methodology. Care is the domain. The discipline does not change because the subject matter is human.
Precise.
Ambiguity is a design failure. In care systems it is also a harm vector. We specify what other designers leave vague.
Contained.
Unbounded systems fail under load. We specify scope, set limits, and build systems that stay within their design parameters.
Durable.
A system that depends on heroic individual effort is not a system — it is a temporary condition. We build for replacement, not reliance.
People burn out.
Systems do not.
We build systems.

the studio

WOOMB is a systems engineering studio. The domain is care — specifically, the care economy: the labor, infrastructure, coordination, and governance that care requires to function at scale without collapsing.

The methodology is engineering. We specify requirements, define constraints, design for failure, and build systems that hold under real-world load. The fact that the subject is human does not make rigor optional — it makes it necessary.

The studio produces systems, architectures, frameworks, and products. It does not provide care. It builds what care needs to be possible.

01
Precise.
We write specifications. We define terms. We draw boundaries. Ambiguity is a design failure and we treat it as one.
02
Contained.
Every system we design has a defined scope, a boundary condition, and a governance layer. Open-ended is not a feature — it is a failure mode.
03
Durable.
We design for substitutability. The system should not break when a person leaves. If it does, the system was never finished.
04
Bounded.
Load limits are a design input, not an afterthought. We specify them before anything is built — not after the first failure.
WOOMB
Founder & Principal Care Systems Engineer
WOOMB
WOOMB was founded by a systems engineer who looked at the care economy and identified a straightforward problem: the infrastructure does not exist. The coordination layers are missing. The labor systems are informal. The governance is nonexistent.

The studio was built to engineer those things into existence. Not to advocate for them. To build them.
